Winterton is a very popular beach on the east Norfolk coast, just a few miles north of Great Yarmouth. It’s one of the beaches which is dog-friendly all year round and the Dunes Café with sumptuous crayfish baguettes and homemade cakes and pastries mean that it is a hit with families and walkers too. Miles of coastline spread in either direction from the on-site car park and up on the peaks behind the sandy and stony beach are rolling dunes.
When the tide goes out at Winterton, it leaves behind a strip of shallow water with a narrow stretch of beach before the sea. Get there at the right time and this is the perfect opportunity for some shallow swimming for children, dogs and adults alike. The car park is accessible through the stunning seaside town of Winterton-on-Sea which boats a beautiful church, a welcoming village pub and a newsagents to boot. Winterton-on-Sea is just under 2 miles from the thriving seaside resort at Hemsby.
Parking is charged at £1 per hour, or £5 for the day which is a steal for how close you are to the rippling waves, and on busy summer days a parking attendant will guide you to a space. The Dunes Café opens at 9am and sells a wide range of hot and cold delights for lunch and breakfast at a reasonable price (baguettes £6.50, pastries £1.80).
